Recovery for the small machine shop.

To have a recovery there had to have been some kind of insult or injury,,,, or sickness. I’m not sure what to call it exactly but there was something a miss in our country and in our world. When it fell we all held on, I don’t think anyone made good but most of us made.

The fat has been cut, the doors shut a little earlier, and we all try a little harder because we hope to get back to where we were. We must work our way out of this, we can not borrow or beg and come out on top. If you sell yourself for more than you are worth how exactly do you make up the difference?

Be innovative. Study while the time is available. Prepare for the challenges that we have faith will come. Don’t back down on price unless you have truly found a better, cheaper way to produce. Do all you can to learn how to work for the government. They are expanding like no other company in American History.

Keep the faith.

Technical Training in the USA???

Part 1

Where have all the trade schools gone? Did they leave because of lack of student interest, or business needs, or just because it is cheaper put a computer in a nice safe class room than to invest in our nation’s future with $500,000 state of the art machine tool? Anyway you look at its going to put us behind the ball again. We are experiencing huge manufacturing growth do to the price of oil, the military actions, and maintaining our mature infrastructure. China is ready again to set in and work circles around us. Not with big dollar equipment but cheap well trained skilled labor working in dirt floor shops doing most of the work by hand. Technical Training in the USA??? Were do we start?

Tight Tolerance Machine Work

Part 1

A good balance of highly trained machinist and state of the art high tech machinery is only part of the answer to staying at the top of the game when it come precision tooling. Lead time leads the way. If you can’t get the parts on the customers dock when they need them you don’t even get a shot at the bid. It starts with management that can plan days, weeks, even months in advance for the job that they have not even heard of yet. They are not scared to run their shop load at just a week or even a few days. They know that if they can make room for more work, it will be there.
